2789540_1418209932.6742Junior Lancer Cheer is going to WORLDS and we need your help!

Junior Lancer Cheer’s Titanium Cheer Squad will be representing the State of Wisconsin and the United States at the International Cheer Union School World Cheerleading Championships (ICU SWCC) in Orlando, FL on February 8th, 2015! JLC is the first middle school/recreational cheer team in Wisconsin to earn the honor of competing at this international premiere event! In addition, JLC is returning to defend their Top 10 National Ranking at the Universal Cheerleading Association National High School Championships (UCA NHSCC) in Orlando, FL on February 7th & 8th, 2015! The Junior Lancer Cheerleaders are the first middle school/recreational team in Wisconsin to compete at the UCA NHSCC in February 2014, and are currently ranked 7th in the Nation. The team is extremely humbled by this honor and will do all they can to make Brookfield and Wisconsin proud!

Over 10,000 cheerleaders representing 30+ states and 8 countries will travel to Orlando, Florida on February 7th & 8th, 2015 to compete at the ICU SWCC and UCA NHSCC.  Each team will have 2 minutes and 30 seconds to impress the judges with a high energy, non-stop routine filled with stunting, tumbling, pyramids, jumps, dance, and crowd-leading skills.

This year’s Nationals team is comprised of 15 girls, with nine team members making their Nationals debut this season.  They have seen great success this season, earning 1st Place and Division Championship titles each of the three competitions they have performed at.  Their athletic success continues as the team earned their second consecutive New Berlin Eisenhower Lion’s Pride Grand Champion title on November 1st, their third consecutive Menomonee Falls Indian Invite Grand Champion title on November 22nd, and their second consecutive UCA Milwaukee Championship Division Champion title on December 6th.  In addition to their athletic success, five members of the cheer team achieved academic success as well by earning a 3.75 GPA or higher in the 1st Quarter of the 14-15 school year, and two members of the cheer team are members of the National Junior Honor Society.  The team has also logged over 40 hours of community service this season.

Junior Lancer Cheer is seeking businesses and individuals to participate as sponsors for their journey to the ICU SWCC and UCA NSHCC, considered the pinnacle Worlds and Nationals event for school and recreational cheerleaders across the world. A GoFundMe campaign has been created to support team members with travel and competition associated costs. Sponsorships of any size will be greatly appreciated.

We have four different levels of sponsorship with recognition opportunities, and every donation will be recognized on our website, unless otherwise requested.  Sponsors who provide contact information will receive a letter of appreciation from our cheerleaders!

###

Junior Lancer Cheer is a community-based, non-profit, volunteer-driven organization with the goal to instruct, promote, and compete in the sport of cheerleading for the youth of the Elmbrook School District.

Junior Lancer Cheer offers Kindergarten – 8th grade girls and boys an athletic, no-cut sport which develops safe and healthy cheerleading skills for the purposes of cheering at Junior Lancer football and basketball games, and Elmbrook Stars Special Olympics sporting events, competing in local, regional and National competitions, participating in community events, and ultimately developing their athletic cheer skills.

The Happenings at Brookfield Village Farmers’ Market

What a GREAT market last week!

With perfect weather and a variety of awesome vendors, the Ice Cream Social was a huge hit. We went through SEVEN GALLONS of ice cream! Thanks to everyone who came out!

unnamed (17)Allison’s Art Cart was another great addition to our market. The kids were having such fun painting in the shade!

unnamed (18)

A new cheese vendor, Bon Bree Brick, from Williams Homestead Creamery came last week to share their delicious, creamy cheese! Sampling every one was a must.

Thanks everyone for keeping this Market going this summer. We couldn’t do it without ANY of you, vendors and customers alike!

SEE YOU THURSDAY!

Recipe of the Week: Broccoli Slaw

unnamed (19)

Need something to bring on that weekend picnic or family gathering? Broccoli Slaw is always a great way to go. Enjoy this healthier version of the old favorite. Don’t forget to pick up your ingredients at the market this week!

Ingredients

makes 5 cups
2 heads broccoli
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons currants (plumped in boiling water, if desired)
1/2 cup finely chopped red onion
3/4 cup slivered almonds (or whole almonds that have been roughly chopped, like ours above)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
freshly ground pepper

Shred the broccoli in a food processor, using the grater disk (the attachment with the smaller holes, not the one with long, thin blades). In a large bowl, combine the shredded broccoli, currants, red onion, and almonds.

Whisk together the mayonnaise, lemon juice, vinegar, sugar, salt, and a few grinds of fresh pepper. Pour the dressing over the broccoli mixture and stir to combine. Taste and add more salt or pepper, if needed. Allow to sit for 30 minutes (or an hour in the fridge) so the flavors can mingle.

What’s in Season?

unnamed (20)July is full of delicious produce: Melons, Blueberries, Tomatoes, Summer Squash, Potatoes, Kohlrabi, Chard, Cabbage, Beans, Beets, Cauliflower, Garlic and more! Come pick up some of these delicious and nutritious foods and see more of what’s in season this Thursday!

A HUGE Thank You to all of the Brookfield Village Farmers’ Market Sponsors! We could not do it without you!

VENDOR OF THE WEEK:
Martita’s Mixers

I started Martita’s Mixers, based here in Milwaukee, because I love margaritas but there is usually so much bad stuff in them. Why does enjoying life have to be so guilty? I came up with Martita’s Guiltless® Margarita Mix.
The Guiltless® Margarita Mix is:
· Naturally sweetened (Stevia) so has low sugar, low calories. Has natural food coloring
· Has natural flavorings
· It’s also Gluten Free.
· Is made in Wisconsin
· Tastes great

Recently I came up with a Tropical Hibiscus Mix:
The Tropical Hibiscus is:
· All natural- it does need to be refrigerated since there are no preservatives.
· Mixes well with Whiskey, Tequila, Vodka, Rum & Coconut Rum.
· This is currently being made by myself in a commercial kitchen.

Please visit my websitewww.MartitasMixers.com
and like my facebook page athttps://www.facebook.com/MartitasMixers
Thanks for your interest and support!

Local business Sabella’s Pub and Grill served their delicious homemade Italian Sausages with hot pepper. Recipe of the Week: Lemon Herb Chicken

In need of a light summer meal? Look no further! Dominion Valley Farm from Allentown, WI has come up with a great recipe using their all natural, pasture raised chickens!  Pair with a romaine lettuce salad with rosemary balsamic dressing for a complete meal.

¼ cup vegetable oil        ¼ cup ketchup

2 Tbsp lemon juice       2 Tbsp soy sauce

¼ tsp salt and pepper   ½ tsp rosemary leaves

½ tsp marjoram leaves   ½ tsp thyme leaves

1 whole DVF chicken, cut into 8 pieces

5 cups Corn Flakes, crushed to 3 cups

In a large mixing bowl, stir together oil, ketchup, lemon juice, soy sauce, salt, pepper, and herbs. Add chicken and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate several hours, spooning marinade over chicken.

Drain chicken pieces slightly. Coat with cereal. Place in a single layer in shallow pan coated with vegetable cooking spray. Bake at 350 for 50-55 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink. Do not cover pan or turn chicken while baking.

For more information and recipes, check outwww.dominionvalleyfarm.com
